Movie Review

This past Valentine’s day, my boyfriend and I did our usual thing: played video games, went out to dinner, and went to see a movie.

We saw Deadpool.

And that is what this post is all about. SPOILERS AHEAD!Deadpool is Marvel’s newest movie, and I think it’s one of their best in recent years. The plot follows Wade Wilson (played by Ryan Reynolds), a former special-ops soldier turned mercenary as he falls in love, is diagnosed with cancer, volunteers for a program that says they can cure him and give him superpowers, but surprise! They lied. He develops a regenerative ability, but has horrible scars all over his body.

This is where the movie goes a little cliché: Deadpool starts hunting down people from the organization, looking for the main bad guy so that he can fix his looks. It made up for it, however, by adding moments of levity in how Deadpool hunted his information down. The scene I’m thinking of is when he’s chasing down somebody on the ice….with a zamboni.

The movie as a whole was full of raunchy and dark humor, plenty of swearing, fourth wall breaks, plenty of action, and a rockin’ soundtrack. For those wondering why I included the second and third items, is because without them, it wouldn’t be Deadpool.

And I think that’s why I loved the movie so much; it stuck to the character. If anybody recalls X-Men Origins: Wolverine, you’ll remember the mutant with his mouth sewed shut at the end. That was supposed to be Deadpool, but that adaption practically got disowned by the fans and even his actor, Ryan Reynolds. When it was announced that Deadpool was getting a standalone R-rated movie and Reynolds was going to be playing him, everyone went crazy. As soon as the release date was revealed, I told my boyfriend, “We’re absolutely going to see that.” After that weekend, I found a new screensaver for my computer: Deadpool Wade Winston Wilson mercenary Comic Marvel Heroes Superhero HD Wallpaper for desktop black background

In short, if you haven’t seen it and you love Marvel movies, hero movies, action movies, go see Deadpool.

If you’ve already seen it, go see it again. It’s worth the money. (I do recommend that you try and bring your own snacks, movie theater prices are ridiculous)
